Volvo Ocean Race

There are lots of sailing competitions around the world but Volvo Ocean Race Regatta is a real examination of  courage, stamina and knowledge of seamanship. More than  a century ago courageous sportsmen tried to cross the ocean on board of their sport ships. Unfortunately not every trip had a happy end. Despite the fact that nowadays Volvo Ocean Race is basically a competition of high technology, professionalism and teamwork  still play a defining role in the race. This regatta is justly called «Everest of Sailing». The representative of our country was Team Russia on «Kasatka» yacht. This year Volvo Ocean Race has made the finish in Russia, in St-Petersburg for the first time in the 35-year history of the competition. Having started about a year ago in October 2008 in Spanish city of Aleconte, yachts have crossed about 37000 sea miles and came to official finish on Neva River near the walls of Petropavlovskaya Fortress. To honor yachtsmen the bridges were raised in St-Petersburd and the winners were honored on  bastions of Petropavlovskaya Fortress. For more details watch the program on RTG TV .
