Astronaut and Photographer Fedor Urchikhin

Fyodor Nikolayevich Yurchikhin is an astronaut and has been named a “Hero of the Russian Federation.” He has taken part in three space missions and has spent more than a year of his life in outer space – 369 days, 20 hours and 14 minutes, leaving the spaceship four times to float in free space. During his first trip into space, Yurchikhin began to photograph the Earth. He returned from his latest flight in November, 2010 with more than 45,000 pictures. Fyodor Yurchikhin’s portraits of the plant Earth are on exhibition at the Museum of Astronautics, some small galleries and even in the State Duma. They are all entitled «Our home – the Earth». Each photograph aims to demonstrate the same thing – the beauty and fragility of our planet.
