Competitive Carp Fishing in the Lipets Oblast

Mankind came up with the idea for bait a few thousand years ago. It was at that very moment that what we today call «fishing fever» appeared. The desire to catch the biggest fish, show off a trophy and be known as a skilled hunter are all things worthy of respect and honour. A thousand years later fishing has become a big industry, a sport and leisure activity and a thing building bonds between its fans all over the world. Catching carp for sport – or «carp fishing» as professionals call it – is one of the most popular and widespread types of fishing competitions. In May of 2011, Russia’s carp fishing elite gathered on the shores of Vysokopolje Pond in Lipetsk Oblast. During the 3-day non-stop competition 24 teams from across the country competed to see who could catch the most impressive carp. RTG TV host Alexander Uvarov went to check out the competition.
