The historic city of Rostov was built on both banks of the powerful Don River. Because of its location, the city’s name was later modified to Rostov-on-Don - in honor of the river that is at least 23 million years old according to scientists. Over the years archeologists have uncovered treasures including mammoth remains, Amazonian gold and armour once belonging to soldiers of the famous Tamerlane on the banks of this primary water artery. RTG host Denis Golovko discovered for himself that current-day Rostov, with its unique architecture and monuments, is just as interesting as its impressive history.
