Village cooking in the Komi Republic

There are no cities, just small towns and villages, endless forests, fields and clear, flowing rivers in the Komi Republic’s Ust-Kulomsky District. Here locals have been careful to preserve and pass down traditional songs, customs and recipes from generation to generation. With this in mind, it is no real surprise that here you can try a variety of traditional cuisine from the provinces. In modern Komi cuisine ingredients are often more important than the recipes. The products nature provides — such as berries, mushrooms, venison and northern fish - are truly something special and make thinking up new, complex recipes almost unnecessary. Despite this, Komi’s traditional cuisine is much more interesting and richer than many believe. RTG TV host Alexander Uvarov visited the area where he got to prepare a variety of dishes using original village recipes, and showing Komi’s city-dwellers the great culinary surprises await them outside of the centre!
