Small Towns of Lipetsk Oblast

Lipetsk Oblast is a relatively young region of Russia, which didn’t exist as an administrative entity until 1954. This area however, is home to both cities and villages, which, regardless of the region’s borders and definitions, will hold their place in Russian history, culture and spiritual life. Host Nadezhda Lebedeva visited the station where Leo Tolstoy spent his last days, as well as the Semyonov family home where famed Russian geographer and traveller Pyotr Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky was born. She also took a stroll around the quiet streets of a town called «Orange Fortress». This provincial Russian town is a place where many interesting discoveries have been made. Such tiny little gems of discoveries are scattered throughout the entire country, and only by examining them more closely can people understand how it is these small pieces that make up the impressive story of Russian history and culture.
