«Mari country» is the literal translation of the name «Mari El» in the Mari language. This land, known for its lakes, forests and fresh, clean air, is home to many nature reserves and natural parks. One of these parks is called «Mari Chorda», which means «Mari Forest». This picturesque area is comprised of the southern spurs of the Mariisko-Vyatsky Ridge. The steep Klenovaya Gora (Maple Mountain), which is famous for its sinkholes, stands up tall in the centre of the park. Tourists can familiarise themselves with the beautiful nature the Mari Republic has to offer while riding on horseback. A trip on horseback allows you to see fields, woods, hilly terrain and small rivers in a fascinating tour of the nature reserve. Without a doubt, each tourist that visits Mari Chorda will find something they find interesting and unusual. In the forest wilderness of the Republic of Mari you can even find a real castle, whose owners were members of the famous ducal family of the Sheremetevs.
