There are more than 20 mountain ranges located on Russian territory and much of them is left to be explored. Hundreds of their peaks are yet to be reached and many of them still remain unnamed. The ancient peoples that lived in these mountainous regions told legends of the area’s unscalable cliffs and glistening peaks. To a certain degree, climbers and geologists romanticise the mountain world. These amazing and mysterious places spark travellers’ interest and lure them in. No two people are alike, and the same is true of mountains; they differ in size and character and make an impression on all those who have had the chance to visit the mountain ranges in Altai, the Caucasus, the Urals or the Khibiny Mountains. Host Andrey Ivanov has been especially lucky: He has visited all of Russia’s primary mountain ranges, leading him to conclude that we as people do not reign over the mountains, but rather they over us.
