This ancient Russian city located in the Vologda region is of the same age as Moscow. It was founded in the year 1147 near the river Yug mouth. Hence the name Ust-Yug appeared. The city was built at crossroads of the two major trade routes in the east and in the north. In honour of the contribution to the development of the commerce of the Russia the city was named officially Ustyug Veliky in the 16th century. The present day it's a charming calm province where quite a number of talented jewellers, artists, birch bark carvers live and work. The presenter Maria Mumicheva got acquainted with the skilful Ustyug masters that had been keeping up ancient crafts for centuries and even managed to make something herself.
