The city of Mozhaysk is located in the western part of Moscow Oblast, where the border of Ancient Rus’ was for many centuries. Mozhaysk served as a Moscow outpost more than once, defending the capital from enemy attacks. It is also the place where the phrase “Drive them out of Mozhay,” in other words, get the enemy off of Moscow territory, originated. And although the fortressed city was destroyed many times and burned down to the ground, inhabitants rebuilt Mozhaysk again and again on the high peaks not far from the Moscow River. To this day Mozhaysk has still preserved its street layout, laidback way of life and the inhabitants have managed to hold onto their unique Mozhaysky character. Due to its interesting history and location, Mozhaysk is currently considered one of the most attractive cities for travelers. RTG TV host Ludmila Shiryaeva went for a stroll around the old city to get a better understanding of its history as well as what life is like there nowadays. It turns out that Mozhaysk is full of new things to discover and paradoxes. There, architectural monuments and more modern constructions made from glass and concrete can be found standing side by side. Young Mozhaysky women are becoming world champions in more extreme sports and seemingly normal residents, upon a closer look, turn out to be cowboys, Native Americans and adventurers at heart. Perhaps this is owing to the so-called Mozhaisk character itself.
