Bavarian Cuisine at the Karl & Friedrich Restaurant

In 1724 Peter the First set aside property on St. Petersburg’s Krestovsky Island and instructed brothers Karl and Frederick Reichmuth to open a brewery. But in the 18th century, this was just not meant to be. In 1999 however, a fellow German, Ludwig Reichmuth, offered to make this once-suggested plan a reality. The Karl and Frederick restaurant soon opened on the property once designated for the project by the Emperor. Here guests are invited to try Bavarian dishes and, of course, delicious beer brewed on site in the restaurant’s brewery. RTG TV host Andrey Ivanov familiarised himself with several of the restaurant’s dishes, preparing a traditional starter – Obatzda and Bretzel – and assembling a meat platter with Chef Dmitry Korzakovy.
